Hours after Allawi backs out, he met with Sadr
Allawi seeks to build positive relations with the Sadrists, the SCIRI, and the Kurds

The news of Allawi building relations with the Sadrists, SCIRI, and the Kurds tells me he's not out for good.  I wonder if he's just mustering up support for when Maliki's government fails?  Remember that Allawi said without his involvement in government, he gives Maliki about 6 months before his government crumbles.  One thing to note about Allawi is that his track record on dates is not too shabby.
