Highlights/Thoughts

1. A member of the state of law expects a meeting between Maliki, Allawi, and Barzani next week
2. The purpose of the meeting is to resolve the outstanding problems relating to the security ministries and the National Council
3. He said the outcome of the meeting will be important, but not decisive
4. He added that the List would need to make concessions to resolve the outstanding issues because it cannot go beyond the law and the Constitution
5. He noted that the problems in Iraq are affecting the political situation and said that were it not for the demonstrations, the candidates for the 3 security ministries would have been given to parliament this week
6. He said that they will view the names of the security ministries this period

It's interesting to see that Maliki's group is saying that the atmosphere/demonstrations caused the delay of the 3 security ministries. Yet, there are two reasons why Barzani, Maliki, and Allawi are meeting: 1) security ministries; 2) National Council. Hmmm....which is it? Is it that they haven't agreed yet and need to work things out? Or, is it the demonstrations? Maybe neither.

  1. It is already very clear that we will not see any movement toward a revaluation before March 1st. I love when rumors call for a deadline that just can not be passed. We have seen so many of them come and go. Iraq does not care about deadlines. This thing is far from over.
